We have created a visual projection system for DR Koncerthuset (The Danish Broadcasting Corporation Concert Hall). Constructed as an integral part of the DR headquarters, it serves as a prestigious venue for numerous globally acclaimed choirs and orchestras. The building was designed by French architect Jean Nouvel, who envisioned the concert hall as a meteor crashing into the local area, leaving a big blue block of ice. This concept aimed to breathe life into a district that was still under construction at the time.

The entrance, foyer and bars contain massive concrete walls, which have been equipped with projectors to make them become alive. DR asked us to develop a visual system for these walls, which ensures a flow of content that is rooted in the space.

Based on the building’s architectural foundation and its surrounding narrative, with a strong emphasis on music and its exceptional performers, we developed a cohesive concept. To involve the house’s musicians and singers as directly as possible, we chose a fully analogue approach, creating an abstract visual system from footage of them, captured through water and ice. This method allowed employees to actively witness and participate in the design process, resulting in a strong sense of ownership.

We have taken the project from inception to completion. From developing the visual principles and advising on the technical solution within the venue, to filming, editing and implementing the concept – including a back-end solution for easy scheduling and updating of content.

In addition to illuminating the house with projections, the concept also serves as a fifth element, establishing a visual framework for cross-platform communication for the launch of the new season program. This comprehensive approach transcends the boundaries of the physical space, integrating between various platforms to create a cohesive and engaging visual experience.
